Cataract

What is Cataract?

Is cataract the loss of elasticity of the lens of the eye?

Normally being glassy and bright, the lens of the eye becomes cloudy and takes on the appearance of icy glass.

The main cause of cataract is old age, but it can be found at any age, including newborns.

Causes of cataracts.

Apart from aging and genetics, the main causes of cataracts include steroids, medication, eye injury, diabetes and eye inflammation (uveitis).

What are the symptoms of cataracts?

The symptom of cataract types is reduced vision.

Other symptoms include: changes in eye size, reduced vision in bright light.

For example: if the number of myopic glasses increases after 50 year of age, it may be caused by cataracts. Cataract does not cause sudden loss of vision. If vision loss appeared in a very short time, other causes should be sought in addition to cataracts.

How to treat cataract

Operation should be performed when the cataract disturbs the patient's vision and causes discomfort. It is not necessary to wait for the cataract to mature.

How to perform cataract surgery.

Cataract surgery is performed without needles and stitches by the phacoemulsification method. At the end of the operation, a lens is placed in the eye.
